Wanna Play III

Wanna Play III by Courtney Prahl is a richly textured and emotionally engaging artwork that brings together whimsy, nostalgia and heartfelt character. This mixed-media collage portrays a beagle’s face, built from an imaginative layering of materials, creating a piece that feels both playful and deeply considered. Sections of patterned fabric, textured textiles and, most notably, vintage sheet music are carefully assembled to form the dog’s features. The musical notes and flowing staves shape the face and muzzle, giving the impression that the beagle is made not just of paper and cloth, but of rhythm, memory and gentle harmony.

The dog’s expression is calm, curious and quietly endearing. Its soft eyes draw you in, while the loose, floppy ears add an effortless charm that feels instantly familiar to anyone who loves dogs. The background is a soothing pale blue, delicately veiled with handwritten script that recalls old correspondence or personal journals. This subtle layering creates a sense of depth and history, as though the artwork carries stories from another time, whispered rather than declared.

Courtney Prahl’s work is celebrated for its ability to transform everyday and repurposed materials into uplifting visual narratives. Her style bridges folk art warmth with contemporary collage, resulting in pieces that feel personal, optimistic and full of life. Wanna Play III reflects her fascination with home, companionship and the beauty found in sentimental fragments, making it a piece that resonates on both a visual and emotional level.
