In 1886, a group of newly-emerged painters exhibited their works for the eighth time, thus giving birth to the new painting era in the art development, regardless of the latter’s a kind of shocking effect on art connoisseurs.

Following the steps of Barbizon School representatives, the new painting completely broke all bonds with academic art, absolutely leaving studio space and assimilating with nature. In such a manner, impressionists managed to introduce a totally different approach towards the existing world.

Being a prominent member of the art-changing movement and even the “winner” of its denomination (Impressionism called after the famous “Impression: Sun Rise” of 1874), Claude Monet carried out his entire artistic activity in France, if not taken into account his short yet no less important visits to England.

Claude Monet was the first among impressionists to persuade others to completely abandon themselves to plein air art creation. This said, you can imagine him, without any difficulties, arranging a studio on a boat and dedicating himself to the painting of ever-changing nature. Monet’s ideas were followed by new technical methods. Monet’s main objective was to lay rapid brush strokes on a canvas, thus taking major care of the whole impression rather than details. Such an attitude, often being the cause of numerous incomplete works, made the experts pretty horrified.

The acquaintance with the works of Turner during his sojourn in London, enabled the French artist to make even bolder steps towards his inclinations. In his renowned Saint Lazare Station (1877), it is completely visible that Monet is not interested in depicting the station itself, but he is totally distracted by showing light effects on vapor masses under the ceilings made of glass and the forms of trains and carriages amidst such ’chaotic’ lights, that work here and almost in all his artworks for the composition unity.

Monet was the pioneer among his equals who reached the perfect compliance between colour and light, searching for no light and shadow contrasts and achieving his goals by just adding clean and bright colours on clean colour-enriched surfaces. For this very reason, roughly all his landscapes appear to be filled with air and sunlight (The Cliff Walk at Pourville; The Lunch; Corner of the Garden at Montgeron).

At the edge of transposing his mid-career artistic aspirations into later works, represented mainly by his famous collection of lilies (Water Lily Pond, The Japanese Footbridge, Water Lilies, Lilies) Monet makes us gradually sink in an overflowing colour-focused calm sea, almost erasing the objective reality and transforming the whole canvas into a splash of colours and obsessing brush movements.

Monet lived a long life, thus being able to embrace the inconstancy of nature solely by his multiple artworks.
