Dancer on Stage by Degas

This is a wonderful, premium-quality print of Edgar Degas’s classic gouache on canvas impressionist artwork entitled Dancer On Stage.

Degas completed this artwork around 1877 and then gifted it to his old friend and former schoolmate, Alexis Rouart. Degas was also close to Henri Rouart, Alexis’s brother who was an amateur painter, Henri Rouart had an impressive collection of works by Degas which included the great “Dancers Practicing at the Bar” . “Dancer Onstage” they were all later passed to Alexis’s son Henri upon his death.

Edgar Degas was a French Impressionist artist famous for his pastel drawings and oil paintings, he is especially identified with the subject of dance; more than half of his works depict dancers. Although Degas is regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, he rejected the term, preferring to be called a realist.
