Artwork Description

This is a premium-quality print of Northeaster, painted by Winslow Homer in 1895 using the medium of oil on canvas. Northeaster is one of several paintings on marine subjects Homer created during his time in Maine. The painting depicts a struggle of elements between the sea and the rocky shore. Winslow Homer excelled in painting landscape paintings that depicted seascapes and mountain scenery.

Winslow Homer was an American landscape painter, he is considered one of the foremost painters in 19th-century America and a preeminent figure in American art. Predominately self-taught, Homer began his career working as a commercial illustrator then subsequently took up oil painting and produced major studio works, he also worked extensively in watercolour primarily chronicling his working vacations. Click here to see more premium-quality classic art prints.
