The striking image of the cobalt-blue eye has appeared not only in the bazaars of Istanbul but everywhere from the sides of planes to the pages of comic books. Though often dubbed as ‘the evil eye’, the ocular amulet or emblem is actually the charm meant to ward off the real evil eye, a curse transmitted through a malicious glare.

Courtney Prahl studied art at Marymount University and the Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Her work’s primary focus is on 3D arts, whimsical mixed media and collage collections that are inspired by nature and focus on the world outside.
