Old Sound by Paul Klee

One of our most recent additions to the site is this thought-provoking collection of artwork by the artist Paul Klee. This interesting modern art piece by Paul Klee entitled “Old Sound” features an array of squares in different colours.

Paul Klee, a German artist born in Switzerland, developed a unique style influenced by various art movements such as expressionism, cubism, and surrealism. He delved deeply into colour theory, documenting his findings extensively in the Paul Klee Notebooks which are considered as crucial to modern art as Leonardo da Vinci’s A Treatise on Painting was to the Renaissance. Klee and his contemporary, the Russian painter, Wassily Kandinsky, both served as teachers at the Bauhaus School of Art in Germany.
