It’s no secret that becoming a well-known artist is one of the toughest things to do.  Everybody has a different opinion of what real art is and if they don’t like it, they will simply laugh and walk away.  Fortunately for Iris Scott, this is not the case.  Through much adversity and many trying times, she has been able to rise above and create a following that will follow her into the abyss.  Luckily, however, this is not the case.

Born in 1984 to a couple of hippies near Seattle, WA, the farm she grew up on helped to eventually shape her artistic streak.  Her parents, who were both self-employed, decided to name her after the Greek goddess who was known for the rainbow.  This actually explains the bright colours that can be seen in her paintings as she is named after the goddess of the rainbows.

While both of her parents worked at home, she was often left alone to play and entertain herself.  Growing up was not necessarily a cakewalk as her mother taught piano lessons from the home and her father built custom cabinets his shop, which was attached to their home.  Since income wasn’t necessarily guaranteed, she was limited in the number of toys she had to keep herself occupied.

However, this wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.  Since their house was nestled in a clearing at the end of a long driveway and surrounded by woodlands for as far as the eye could see, Iris was able to have many pets, which she would take care of with her sister.  There were bunnies, dogs, parrots, cats, lizards, chickens, goats and even horses.

Iris’ favourite time growing up was summer, where she would spend all her time barefoot, using fresh clay to build pottery, building tree forts and discovering coves within the hillside.  Being as she grew up in Seattle, there were more rainy days than most can imagine.  But luckily for us, when rainy days made Iris stay inside to her own devices, she would practice drawing from how-to books that she borrowed from the library.

One of the best things about Iris Scott is that growing up, she had no art lessons.  She was able to teach herself how to draw by copying photos and copying paintings that she saw.  She really is the story of practice makes perfect.

After graduating from her university in 2010 and living in Taiwan, Iris was able to stumble into her first professional level finger painting.   During her time in school, Iris was able to discover the wonders of pastels, oils, watercolours, clay, acrylics and charcoal.  While she was finishing a painting of a beautiful flower, she noticed that all of her brushes were dirty.  Eager to complete her piece, she simply finished the painting by squeezing some paint onto her fingers.  That is the exact moment that Iris discovered her love and passion for the power of finger-painting.

Iris has been featured in some of the biggest magazines on the planet.  She has galleries all over the world and has a following that most can only wish for.  Using her fingertips, Iris is able to touch the world with her artwork.  She has helped bring finger-painting to the masses and continues to do so to this day.
